Overview

Located in the heart of Jakarta’s Kebayoran Lama district, Kinshamo (金のしゃもし) Japanese Restaurant is a haven for lovers of authentic Japanese cuisine, especially those with a passion for duck dishes. Nestled within the serene setting of Grogol Utara Rukan Permata Senayan, Kinshamo offers an experience that blends traditional flavors with a contemporary ambiance designed to satisfy discerning diners.

The centerpiece and undeniable highlight of Kinshamo’s menu is the Kamo Shabu-Shabu Kyoto—a refined take on the traditional Japanese hot pot featuring thinly sliced duck cooked swiftly in a delicate dashi broth infused with duck bones. The simplicity of this dish allows the tender meat’s natural flavors to shine, perfectly complemented by the aromatic soup and fresh green onions. This specialty alone sets Kinshamo apart from most Japanese restaurants in Jakarta, making it a must-try for both newcomers and seasoned fans of the cuisine.

Beyond the shabu-shabu, the restaurant’s offerings are equally impressive. The Ginger Shoyu Karaage, inspired by Hokkaido’s classic recipe, strikes a balance between juicy chicken and a subtle ginger-soy glaze, all while maintaining a lightness thanks to canola oil frying. Their skewers, particularly the Aigamo roast duck loin, deliver a juicy, tender bite with a savory and nutty glaze that speaks to authentic Japanese grilling techniques.

Kinshamo’s atmosphere enhances the culinary experience. The layout promotes privacy with curtained tables, allowing guests to enjoy their meal free from distractions. The space is cool and comfortable, an ideal refuge from Jakarta’s hustle and heat, whether one chooses the bar or private room dining options. Staff interaction is warm and attentive, adding a welcome human touch that elevates the entire visit.

For diners who appreciate a comprehensive Japanese meal, Kinshamo’s menu extends to include udon, Matsutake Dobin Mushi, steamed grouper, and an array of appetizers and sashimi, catering to a variety of palates. The inclusion of traditional drinks such as the Kaku Highball nicely rounds out the meal, offering refreshing complements to the rich flavors of their dishes.

Kinshamo appeals to both locals and Japanese expats who seek uncompromising quality and authenticity. It is a spot that rewards exploration with every visit and shines as one of Jakarta's premier Japanese dining destinations. Whether for a quiet evening of savoring delicate duck shabu-shabu or sharing lively conversations over skewers and drinks, Kinshamo provides a thoughtful blend of culinary dedication, comfort, and cultural authenticity.

Recommended by a Japanese expat friend, I was curious to try this authentic Japanese restaurant, plus their signature menu is Kamo (Duck) Shabu-Shabu Kyoto, is something I haven't found in Jakarta yet. Kinshamo opens every day from 6 PM. I highly recommend making an online reservation first.  In the reservation, you can choose either bar or table dining. They also provide private rooms. We reserved for the dinner on Sunday at 6PM for the bar dining, but that time they only serve in table dining, but that  was okay as the place is comfortable and as typical of the privacy in an authentic Japanese restaurant, each table is separated and each has curtain to maintain the privacy. The air conditioner is cold. As a cold fan , I felt more comfortable to dine in here. The staffs were friendly as well. They provide various menu, from their famous duck shabu-shabu, skewers, onigiri, sashimi, karaage, rice dishes, noodles, and many more, including various alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Let's see what we tried! Kamo Shabu-Shabu Kyoto (IDR 320,000 for 2 persons) This menu is available for 1 person, too. It's their specialty that you cannot miss, especially in your first visit. A simple shabu-shabu that consists of thinly sliced ducks that need to cook fast in the boiling soup made with dashi and duck bone, then the duck is served with the soup along with the green onions. It's very simple yet has a great taste from the tender duck and the warm savory soup. Recommended! Ginger Shoyu Karaage (IDR 35,000 for 2 pcs) I saw on Kinshamo's social media that their karaage from Hokkaido recipe is famous, too. That's why, we tried this one. Oh my, I have to say that this is THE BEST KARAAGE THAT I'VE EVER TRIED SO FAR! The chicken is so juicy, with a slightly gingery and savory soy sauce taste. It is less oily as they used canola oil.  Recommended! Skewers We tried both the pork and duck skewers, but of all, I loved their Aigamo Roast Duck loin (IDR 30,000 per piece) the most. The duck skewer was so tender, juicy, and blended well with their salty and slightly nutty sauce. Recommended! Tonkotsu Ramen (IDR 80,000) A simple ramen with a slice of pork chashu, a boiled egg, and green onions in a pork bone broth. The taste is decent.. Kaku High Ball (IDR 90,000) Randomly choosing this as their recommended highball drink. It's a combination of whisky, soda, ice, and sliced lemon. Highballs are very popular among women because they could enjoy alcoholic drink with a lower alcohol percentage.

First time trying this restaurant. Came across this on Chope. Food was great! I must say that the highlight of the meal was the Kamo (duck) shabu-shabu. It's rare to see so many duck dishes in Japanese restaurants here. We would definitely come here again in the future!

Authentic Japanese restaurant in Senayan. Their speciality is Kyoto style Kamo Nabe (Duck hotpot). They also have a good selection of sake & whiskey. If you buy a bottle, they'll let you keep it here for three months. There's also a karaoke room if you're into singing after dinner. You'll notice that almost all the other customers are Japanese. This fact alone already proves that this restaurant is legit.
